OCT Angiography is a new imaging technology that can generate 3D images of the retina’s blood vessels in just a few seconds. This is a nascent technology with great potential for helping with retinal vascular disease diagnosis and treatment.
01
Preparation for OCT Angiography
The OCT machine will scan your eye without you having to touch it, all you need to do is place your chin into the chin rest and remain looking at a target (changing between a blinking dot or small picture). The scanning process will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
02
What conditions can OCT Angiography help diagnose?
OCT-Angiography is a non-invasive, cutting-edge technique for imaging the microvasculature of the retina and choroid.
OCT is useful in diagnosing many eye conditions, including:
- macular hole
- macular pucker
- macular edema
- age-related macular degeneration
- central serous retinopathy
- diabetic retinopathy
- vitreous traction

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is OCT Angiography?
OCTA is an imaging technology used in ophthalmology that produces high-resolution, three-dimensional images of the blood vessels in the eye. OCTA can be used to detect and monitor a variety of eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, Age related Macular degeneration.
Is dilation required for OCT Angiography?
It does not usually require dilation of the pupil to acquire images, although this may still be required depending on individual circumstances.
How long does a OCT Angiography test take?
The OCT Angiography exam is a non-invasive and painless exam that takes only 10 minutes to complete. You will be asked to place your chin on a chin rest and keep your eyes open as you look at a target (often a blinking dot or small picture). The OCT Angiography machine will then scan your eyes without you having to touch it.
How often should OCT Angiography be done?
The answer to this question depends on the patient and their individual medical needs. Some patients will need every six months OCT Angiography while others will only need the test every year. Your doctor will let you know what your appropriate test interval is during your examination.
How much does OCT test cost?
