Pediatric Eye Exam (EUS)

The eye examination under sedation is done when the ophthalmologist needs to do an extensive examination of the eyes. To diagnose certain eye problems, the doctor must use bright lights and instruments to look at the inside of the eye and take measurements and photographs. This type of examination is usually only reserved for when other methods haven’t been successful in diagnosing a patient’s issue.

01
Why it's done

By having regular eye exams, you are opening up the door of opportunity for your eye care professional to not only help correct any vision changes but also provide tips on how to better take care of your eyes. Furthermore, an eye exam might also give clues to your overall health as it is a great way to detect any early signs of potential health problems.

02
During the exam

A clinical assistant or optometrist will usually take care of the initial steps of the examination, such as taking your medical history and giving you an eye test. An eye exam usually involves the following steps:

  1. Checking your child's vision
  2. Examining the eyes
  3. Checking eye pressure
  4. Checking for signs of disease
03
After the exam

After an eye exam, you and your doctor will go over all of the test results together. This will include a discussion about your vision, as well as your risk of developing any eye disease. Your doctor will also recommend preventive measures that you can take to protect your eyesight.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Pediatric Eye Examination?
This test is to measure if your child has a refractive error, such as myopia, that might be affecting their vision. Ocular examination will allow your eye doctor to check the health of your child's eyes, including the cornea, iris, lens, retina and eyelids. This will also help to rule out any other ocular problems that might be present.
What is the purpose of an eye examination?
An eye examination helps to detect eye problems at their earliest stage when they are the most treatable. Regular eye examinations give your eye care professional a chance to evaluate any vision changes and provide you with tips on caring for your eyes.
Why are pediatric eye exams important?
Having your child's eyes checked regularly is important for several reasons. For one, vision problems are relatively common in young children - research suggests that up to 10% of preschoolers and 25% of school-aged kids have some form of vision issue. It's therefore essential to detect any problems early on, as they can cause permanent vision loss if left untreated.
Is eye Dilation necessary for kids?
Dilating the eyes is necessary for learning about a person's vision — even when that person is very young. Eye doctors discover different things by dilating a person's eyes at different ages, so if your optometrist wants to dilate your child's eyes, it's best to let them do it.
How much are consultation charges?
The pediatric eye exam charge is 2500pkr.
