A visual field test is an eye examination that looks for central and peripheral vision dysfunction. This type of test can help to detect various medical conditions such as glaucoma, stroke, brain tumours or other neurological deficits.
01
Preparation for Visual Field
Visual fields can be evaluated by having the patient cover one eye and look straight ahead while using peripheral vision to identify an object or the number of fingers shown by the examiner. However, testing at only four locations is only sensitive to significant field defects.
02
What conditions can Visual Field help diagnose?
The visual field test is a way for doctors to find early signs of diseases like glaucoma, which can gradually damage vision. Some people with glaucoma don't notice any problems with their vision, but the visual field test can show that peripheral vision is being lost.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Visual Field test?
The visual field test is important because it helps doctors measure how far someone can see in any direction without moving their eyes and how sensitive someone's vision is in different parts of the visual field. This is important in order to find certain types of injuries and diseases, like glaucoma.
What can a visual field test detect?
A visual field test can be used to detect various issues with your vision, including blind spots caused by a brain tumor, stroke, glaucoma, diabetes, hypertension, or head trauma. Additionally, this test can be used to monitor the progression of previously known visual field loss.
How long does a visual field test take?
The visual field test measures the central and side vision for each eye and takes approximately 5-10 minutes. You can blink normally throughout the test. One eye is covered during the test (so that one eye is tested at a time), and you want to always look straight ahead at the steady yellow light.
Are eyes dilated for visual field test?
During a glaucoma examination, your peripheral vision will be tested as part of the formal visual field test. Ideally, your eyes should not be dilated during this test so that the examiner can get a clear view of the iris and other parts of the front of the eye.
How much does Visual Field test cost?
It will cost you 8000 PKR.
